First remove the old decals, by pulling them off, as much as possible. Then you can use rubbing alcohol to move all the glue residue. If you leave some of the residue on, it will show underneath as lumps.  Also be sure to wash off the rubbing alcohol before applying as it will weaken the adhesive.

  1. I read that you don’t have the original little tikes sticker in stock but is it something that you can make or get when requested? I’m interested in getting 1 for a little tikes football toy box.

    • Currently I can’t make them, but I am working on a couple of different solutions. The custom name plate is one solution, but I am hoping to list an alternative soon. Melissa 🙂

  2. Do you sell the white decals that are on the ends of the football toy box? if so, how much are they including shipping?

    Thanks,
    June

    • I can sell you just the four white stripes, but if you are referring to different white decals on the very ends of the toy box, I didn’t know they had them. But I am always willing to learn about it. I will look into it, and get back to this comment if I can make them. If you have a picture, I would love to see it.( Melissa@thetoyrestore.com ) Otherwise, I’ll list just the stripes for sale in my stores for you.

    • Hello,
I just opened my stores up, so you can go and buy it, if you are still interested. I will be listing it soon on Ebay as well, and on this site too.
      Melissa 🙂

  3. Hi, are you no longer selling the Little Tykes football chest white decals? Also the customized “name” sticker that goes where it says little tykes? I hope you still are selling these, need them to restore my grandson’s toy box. Thank you! Will

  5. Hi. I was wondering if you have any ideas on what to use to tether the lid to the Little Tikes football toy box. Ours broke a number of years ago and I’d like to have it reattached. I’m trying to refurbish it to give back to a family member who gave it to me when I had my son. She will be having her first grandchild this year. 🙂

    • Hello Rebeca, I have had that question a few times, and I have been working on it. So far I have yet to find a lasting design. I had thought of using zip ties somehow. The original is in the shape of a capital “I” with each end going into the box, and lid. I will keep working on it, and if I come up with something that works, I will add to this comment thread. Thank-you for your question, Melissa

      • Thanks for your quick reply! I thought it was probably shaped that way, in fact half of it is still knocking around inside the lid. The opening is only half an inch so I haven’t worked out how to get it out yet either! I’ll keep brainstorming on a solution. 🙂

  6. Do you know if there is somewhere that I can find the laces for the newer model football toy box? Thank you in advance!

    • Hello,
No sorry, I don’t know od any replacements available. I am working on decals to work as replacements, but I haven’t finished it up. If I am able to put them together soon, I’ll send you an email. Sounds good? 🙂

  7. Hello, I’m also looking for the replacement laces and lid hinge. So excited I found your etsy site. Thank you.

    • Sorry I didn’t respond earlier, I was a little under the weather. 🙂 I am will try to come up with a good solution to that as soon as I can. 🙂

    • Thanks so much! I am working on those, I will move them up to the top of my list, and if I can come up with a good solution, I will send you an email. 🙂

  8. Hi Melissa received and applied the little tykes football stripes and they look great. Now it makes the plastic laces look yellow and dingy. any suggestions on how to briten them up? Iv’e tried baking soda ,comet and soft scrub with little results. A suggestion for taking the glue remanence i used GooGone and it took off the glue easily, then i washed the stripe area with soap and water. I appreciate any help you can give me. thank you .Dave Hartman

    • Hello,
Yes, I am going to do a write up on this, but I found the best way to remove the yellow is to bleach it in the sun. I have not yet taken the laces off the toy box, but I would recommend it, as you don’t want to fade the brown plastic. The best time of the year is the summertime when the sun is the brightest. Leave it out there for a couple of days. You might clearly see the difference, but it is gradual, so it might be hard to see. I have used chemicals to speed up the process, but I want to be sure of the recipe before I publish and recommend anything. Melissa 🙂

    • For the laces, how about disconnecting them and spray painting and then flying them back on. I’m in the process of doing that myself.

    • Sunlight is the best. I carefully pry off the metal on the inside, holding the plastic laces on, and then remove the plastic laces and put them out outside in the sunlight. It might take a day or two, or longer depending on the time of year, and whether it is cloudy or not. I would just watch it to be sure it is ok. You can use hair bleach to speed up the process, but you have to put it in a plastic bag, and watch it closely to ensure it stays wet. I don’t recommend the bleach too much as it will make the plastic more brittle, so use it sparingly, and be prepared to loose your item if you forget about it.

    • If the steering is off with your coupe, then you might have the front wire forms on the wrong sides, or two of the same wire forms, so two lefts for example. Could you send me a picture of your car? I might be able to see what went wrong. 🙂

  9. Hi my name is kandy and after reading through old posts I wanted to reach ot and see if you were ever able to get the 3” luttle tykes decal for the football toy box, pleas get back to me when you can!

    • I was thinking of using zip-ties. You would probably have to drill an extra hole, but it would hold it on. I am still trying to think of a better solution to this. Melissa 🙂
